Microarray Consortium Tutorial

For up to date issues or problems with this database please see the wiki.

NIH Microarray Consortium is a database of publicly available microarray data sets. Each entry in the NIF represents a downloadable data set.

To search for data sets we can query by brain region, animal, array type (Affymetrix is the only platform currently available, but this can change in the future), or disease.

Here we search for "Schizophrenia". We can allow NIF to autocomplete on Schizophrenia and get the following synonyms:

Under the databases tab we find the Microarray category under Data Types.  If we click on the NIHMicroarrayConsortium, we see that there are 4 data sets available.  They vary in species and sample locations, number of times the study was replicated and study type.

If there is a study that is of interest then we can click the blue Grant_ID, which opens up a new tab and leads us to the NIH Neuroscience Microarray Consortium page.  This page contains a richer set of information than the NIF results page, details of the study can be viewed here and the raw data can be downloaded from the site in various formats.
