RGD Rat Strains Tutorial

Browse RGD Rat Strains data in NIF
For more information, visit RGD Rat Strains or the NeuroLex entry  for RGD Rat Strains

The Strain data from the Rat Genome Database project includes a comprehensive description of strain origin, disease, phenotype, genetics, immunology, behavior with links to related genes, QTLs, sub-strains, and strain source.

These data can be accessed via the NIF using any keywords that may bring up a rat strain, such as Wistar, or Sprague Dawley.  Below we search for alcoholic rats.

Rat data is accessible by looking at Data Type > Animals.

Here we find an RGD numerical identifier, which links the current data result to the RGD database, the rat symbol (this is often nonsensical to non rat users), the strain name, type and origin of strain as well as the contributing repository.  RGD is a sort of clearinghouse for rat information, but it does not maintain rat stocks.

Clicking on the RGD_ID column leads to the place in the rat genome database that has information about the particular strain.
